Introduction

Support 4 Independence – Pathways 2 Independence

Limited Only by Imagination - Learning By Design

What We Do

Support 4 Independence (S4I) provides Pathways 2 Independence – a flexible, life-centred programme designed for children, young people, and adults with special educational needs (SEN).

Through hands-on, practical sessions, we create an environment where “school is forgotten” and learners can relax, focus, and develop real-world skills. By entwining everyday experiences and community resources into our activities, participants gain confidence, independence, and a genuine sense of achievement.

Our Approach

We focus on five key pillars:

• Hands-On Learning – woodwork, crafts, STEM projects, 3D printing.

• Life Skills & Independence – cooking, budgeting, IT, home repair.

• Physical & Wellbeing – fitness, outdoor challenges, dance.

• Creative Expression & Communication – art, design, podcasting, writing.

• Community Projects – volunteering, charity projects, business visits.

Each session is carefully adapted using mentoring, visual supports, and flexible pacing to ensure inclusion for every learner.

A Gentle Start

We know that change can be exciting — but it can also feel overwhelming. That’s why we offer a gradual introduction for anyone new to our service.

What It Means

- Start with short visits or taster sessions
- Meet our staff and see our spaces in a calm way
- Try out an activity that matches your interests
- Bring a parent, carer, or key worker at first
- Slowly build up time and independence when ready
There’s no rush — everyone moves at their own pace.

For Families and Carers

We understand that every person is unique. You’ll be involved throughout the introduction process, helping us shape the right support. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the pace feels right for your loved one.
“We start slow so confidence can grow.”

For Professionals

Our gradual introduction process reduces placement breakdowns and ensures positive, sustainable engagement. It allows us to get to know the individual’s communication style, triggers, and strengths early — building a solid foundation for ongoing success.

Our Promise

- Person-centred and flexible
- Calm, welcoming environment
- Regular feedback to families and professionals
- Focus on comfort, trust, and real progress

Why It Matters

Why It Matters

• Inclusive, not exclusive – we meet learners where they are.

• Future-focused – building skills that prepare for adulthood and employment.

• Wellbeing-centred – boosting confidence, resilience, and community belonging.

• Cost-effective – preventing exclusions and reducing long-term dependency on specialist services.

Pathway to Support

1. Assessment of Need – referral partners, schools, or families highlight an individual’s needs and goals.

2. Referral to S4I – our team works with referrers to agree the right pathway.

3. Tailored Support Plan – designed around the individual’s assessed needs, strengths, and aspirations.

4. Practical Participation – learners engage in adapted, real-world activities that develop skills and confidence.

5. Review & Progression – we track progress and adapt support, aiming for independence, meaningful learning, and long-term opportunities.
